Overview:
Cottage Grove is the third largest city in Lane County and is located on Interstate 5, Oregon Route 99, and the main Willamette Valley line of the CORP railroad.
This charming, small town is just twenty minutes south of the Eugene Springfield metro area and has won the prestigious All-America City award twice from the National Civic League (1968, 2004). Known for its live music, theatre arts and local eateries. It borders both Oregon Wine Country and the Cascade foothills where you can get photo perfect views of the local rivers, waterfalls and covered bridges. Cottage Grove is a prime gateway to pacific northwest outdoors encompassing Cottage Grove Lake and the Row River.
It is home to the popular Bohemia Mining Days Festival and the Western Oregon Exposition Heritage Fair & Logging Show. With four museums to explore & the persevered buildings in the heart of downtown you’re sure to get a feel for the city’s rich history from the first drive down the historic Main Street. The Cottage Grove Historical Museum is filled with vintage photographs and artifacts. The Bohemia Gold Mining Museum features the area’s gold mining history in the nearby Bohemia Mining District. The Oregon Aviation History Center preserves Oregon’s rich aviation history including information about vintage aircraft restoration projects. The Dr. Snapp House features artifacts of early medical practices.
Residents enjoy access to historic neighborhoods near downtown, coupled with newer developed suburbs and many larger properties, farms and river or lake front homes. Cottage Grove is home to the Middlefield Golf Course & Hidden Valley Golf Course as well as the Cottage Grove Disc Golf Course. Peace Health has a medical center off of the Interstate 5 while Lane Transit District runs bus service to nearby Eugene and Springfield Cottage Grove State Airport
at Jim Wright Field.
History of the Area:
The City of Cottage Grove was incorporated in 1887 but then merged with the neighboring city of Lemati forming the Cottage Grove boundaries that we know today in 1899.
